LETTER VS. E-MAIL
In collaboration with the Swiss Post, students from the bachelor degree of Visual Communication had the opportunity to design a special issue stamp with the theme «Letter vs. e-mail». From all the designs the SELFIE stamp was named the winner and released in September 2017 with over one million copies to purchase in all Post offices. To convey the theme I got inspired by the idea that a letter is a real object and an e-mail only exists in a virtual space. I wanted to combine the properties of both the letter and the e-mail by materializing a selfie, a contemporary phenomenon, also a representation of digital communication and making it into a real object. Since the canvas of the stamp is very limited in size I used the canvas of the stamp sheet for my design allowing me to replicate a tablet screen with a built-in camera. The design is printed on a mirror like paper and when holding it in hands it seems you are taking a selfie. Besides creating the stamp sheet I developed the first day cover and the corresponding date of issue seal that interacts with the selfie stamp and underlines the overall theme.
